So what are eyelash extensions anyways? We are surrounded by celebrity culture and so many celebrity centric magazines, and everyone wants to look like they are walking down a red carpet. This is a way for the average person to look really glamorous, very fast. Unlike traditional false lashes which are glued to your eye lid and are only worn for a few hours, lash extensions are individual synthetic lashes that are glued to an individual natural lash with a semi-permanent medical grade adhesive. This waterproof formula allows you to shower, exercise and even swim and have amazing lashes 24/7. The process takes 2 hours and they last 3 – 4 weeks. They typically cost between $100 – $300 per service.

Q&A with Wendy Wagenhaffer

Q: What are eyelash extensions?
A:Unlike traditional false lashes which are glued to your eye lid and are only worn for a few hours, lash extensions are individual synthetic lashes that are glued to an individual natural lash with a semi-permanent medical grade adhesive. This waterproof formula allows you to shower, exercise and even swim and have amazing lashes 24/7.

Q: Do they look fake?
A: There are several types of lash extensions available that range in style from a very natural look that doesn’t look any different than your natural lashes (only longer and fuller) to a very glamorous, made up look, depending only on the individual client’s personal preference.

Q: How long do they last?
A: Lash extensions can last up to 2 months. Lashes will last for the length of the natural growth cycle of each eyelash hair (as long as proper care is taken). Touch-ups will be necessary to replace any extensions that have been shed through the natural growth cycle. Touch-ups are recommended every 2-4 weeks.

Q: Will lash extensions damage my natural lashes?
A: Because lash extensions are applied directly to your natural lash with precision and does not come in contact with your skin, they do not effect the growth of your natural lashes. However, special care must be taken to avoid picking, pulling, rubbing, or scratching of the eyes and lashes.

Q: How do I take care of my lash extensions?
– Unlike most other extensions, water will not harm the extensions, even right after application!
– Mascara should not be used (and won’t be needed), especially waterproof.
– Curling of eyelash extensions is not recommended.
– Avoid rubbing your eyes or pulling on your extensions.
– Avoid products that contain glycol, such as oil free make-up
removers and sunscreens.
– Oily products & creams should be avoided (repeated use will break down the glue).
– Visit your technician for touch ups every 2-4 weeks to replace those lashes that have been naturally shed.
